Writer's Block: Game dream believer

[Error: unknown template qotd]
Wow. If that were possible, I think I'd choose Portal. What a hoot that would be, even if I didn't get any cake...

MUaHAhaHAhaHA!!!! XD

I can make it happen Old Wolf! :) I already did 90% of it when I was at Batty's place. The only things I was not able to create were the hand grenades, and the portal gun that allows you to shoot both portals (not just the blue one).

What operating system are you using? If you're using windows then right click on the icon for Portal and choose Properties. When the box comes up click inside the box for the Target and add " -console" to the command already there. The result will be something like this: "K:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 220 -console" (that's for Half-Life because I don't have Portal, sadly...). I actually went so far as to copy the game icon and modify the copy, then rename it "Portal Cheater."

Once you're in the game, start playing normally, then press the ~ key (should be top left on your keyboard). A console command line will appear. Type "sv_cheats 1" to enable cheat codes.

First you need the hazard suit in order to be able to switch weapons because the game Portal was built with the Half-Life 2 engine as a foundation.

"Give item_suit"

Then the portal gun

"give weapon_portalgun"
"upgrade_portalgun" - I haven't had the opportunity to try this one.

Now some Half-Life 2 weapons (typing these should put the weapons in your inventory and then you can switch to them as you normally would)

Type "give weapon_" (with the underscore) followed by one of the following. It's also a way to add ammunition to an existing weapon.

"crowbar" eg: "give weapon_crowbar"
"physcannon" (Gravity Gun - *VERY* useful in Portal)
"pistol"
"357" (.357 Magnum)
"smg1" (Submachinegun)
"ar2" (Combine Pulse Rifle)
"shotgun"
"crossbow"
"rpg" (Rocket Propelled Grenade launcher)

Creating grenades is more tricky. "Give weapon_frag" only works once per game. The only way I've found around it is this:

npc_create_equipment weapon_frag (sets the hand grenade as the defult for new NPCs, can be turned off by using "NULL" in place of the weapon)
Then aim at an empty space on the floor
npc_create npc_metropolice
This will create a combine guard who is harmless because he doesn't know how to use the grenade. Kill him and he'll drop the grenade.

Want Alyx as an ally?
npc_create_equipment weapon_alyxgun
npc_create npc_alyx
She knows the computer is evil and does her best to shoot out the cameras. Unhappily for her the cameras can only be dislodged with the portal gun, and Alyx often falls victim to the emancipation fields in the game. You can also create Barney, Mossman, Kleiner, Eli, Monk and Citizen the same way. Don't create Vortigaunts - they appear but crash the game whenever they try to shoot.

Finally, using "noclip" will toggle on/off the ability to fly and pass through walls (but you're still vulnerable to damage). "God" will make you invincible, and I really wish that they'd chose a less blasphemous code for this cheat. :(

Here are some additional cheats that I looked up after I got home from Batty's. Have not had a chance to try them :(

ent_create_portal_weight_box - create a weighted storage cube, something else I tried to do at Batty's.
ent_fire !picker skin 1 - paints a regular cube into a companion cube
ch_createairboat - this is supposed to create the airboat, which I tried to do at Batty's place without success. I also know a way to enable the boat's gun, which I'll explain later.
sv_portal_placement_never_fail 1 - place portals on any surface
fire_energy_ball - self explanitory

Let me know if any of these don't work and I'll double check.

I'd probably love to be "lost" in any of the Myst ages, especially Riven and later.
(not quite enough depth in the first one)

Writing Linking Books would be very interesting...

My answer depends on whether the game could hurt or kill me for real.

Actually, I don't know what I'd choose anyway. The only games I play online are puzzles, which don't have much of a place for people.

Maybe Animal Crossing: City Folk. It'd be more interesting to meet the anthros in person.
