Saving your LJ

LJ seems to have caught the Lurgi. Posts vanishing with ary an explanation. If you value what you post here, you might want to consider LJArchive, a freeware, Open Source program available at SourceForge.net. Go here and download "ljArchive-0.9.7.exe". I archived my entire LJ, as well as a community, to my hard drive in less than 15 seconds... and it's got some clever plugins as well.

It won't archive embedded video, or the headers to Writer's Block posts, but it will save almost everything else, including comments.

Slick as a whistle.

The Chaos of Pronunciation

Today is "I'm not going to take it any more" Day.
-Lindsay Jane's "Hooray for Everything 2009" Calendar

This has been around for a long time, but I just re-read it, and made several errors. The title is very apt.

While many non native speakers of English speak English quite well, there is always room for improvement. To that end, I'd like to offer you a poem. Once you've learned to correctly pronounce every word in this poem, you will be speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the world.

If you find it tough going, do not despair, you are not alone: Multinational personnel at North Atlantic Treaty Organization headquarters near Paris found English to be an easy language ... until they tried to pronounce it. To help them discard an array of accents, the verses below were devised. After trying them, a Frenchman said he'd prefer six months at hard labor to reading six lines aloud. Try them yourself.
