What happens when a scammer gets into your Facebook account

Prior to this exchange, a scammer sent me an email under the name of one of my Facebook friends, indicating that they were stuck in Cardiff, Wales. I sent a message back saying, "Oh, how awful" or something like that. Shortly thereafter, my "friend" popped up in Facebook chat, and the following exchange took place.

Scammer: Hi christ [Looks like I've been promoted!]
Me: Hey [Name]! :\
Me: Sounds like u got my msg
Scammer: Did you get my message i send to you ?
Me: Yes, what is up?
Scammer: My family and i are stuck in London I'm so sorry not to inform you about are trip
Me: And?
Scammer: we were mugged at gun point, all, cash on me with my phone, credit card was stolen by the robbers
Me: Oh, that's terrible.
Scammer: right now i'm in internet shop writing you this Please i really need your personal assistance getting back home Thank God i still have my passport with me
Me: ...
Scammer: Please we need to make our way out of here
Me: I thought you were in Cardiff, Wales? That's what your message said before.
Scammer: Yes of coruse yes Please is there any way you can loan me some cash to get our flight out of here ?
Me: Here's what I can do for you: I curse your family. I curse your village. I curse your tribe. And I curse your nation of scamming onioburus. Your English is abominable, your morals are absent, and you and the rest of your scum-sucking nation of mugu scammers will roast in Hell for eternity. Black powder and death to you from Olumba Olumba Obu.
Scammer: [quickly goes offline]

Now, that last bit wasn't especially charitable but it's how I feel about these wastes of human cytoplasm who spend their time trying to rip people off.

If you're ever contacted by a supposed friend or relative asking for urgent help, always verify with whom you are speaking. Ask them a question that only they would know the answer to, such as "What creature sat in the corner the first time Harry went to see professor Remus Lupin?"

Be careful out there. Millions of slimeballs want your money, and they don't care how they get it.

And, as a postscript, I was able to contact my friend and help them get their email account and facebook account cleaned up and re-secured. Don't forget to use strong passwords on all your accounts!
