Suspicion confirmed
Jan. 15th, 2009 05:05 pmI recently posted about the odd flush I get when anticipating the consumption of certain spicy foods. I've been watching it closely since then, and it's definitely a real phenomenon.
We know the sense of smell is nothing more than free molecules attaching themselves to our olfactory receptors. Whatever floats away from Tabasco™ sauce, it provokes a total hot flash, accompanied by increased sweating. Very odd indeed.
Next experiment: Put a reminder in my calendar for some random time when I'm nowhere near food, and start thinking about Tabasco™-laced burritos. My hypothesis is that I'll start hot-flashing with no physical stimuli...
