Curse you, Rusty, don't you know I need my sleep? (I'm up to 168. I'm thinking "Little Kim Possible meets Harry Potter in Edward Gorey's house...")

In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon, the chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers, the bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings, the rings, and nose jewels, the changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins, the glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails. And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty. (Isaiah 3:18-24)

For behold, ye do love money, and your substance, and your fine apparel, and the adorning of your churches, more than ye love the poor and the needy, the sick and the afflicted. (Mormon 8:37)

And they did impart of their substance, every man according to that which he had, to the poor, and the needy, and the sick, and the afflicted; and they did not wear costly apparel, yet they were neat and comely. (Alma 1:27)

The compass by which I set my course seem to indicate that opting for fashion rather than comfort is not a wise choice...

Just got my badge in the mail today. The legalese on the back says I might die and they're not responsible, but

I love my AeroGarden™. My first shot was with cherry tomatoes, and the only reason I didn't have huge success was the fact that I was gone for most of the time it was growing, and I couldn't prune and tend the plants properly. But the plants grew well, and would have kept bearing had I kept them well-trimmed.

This time it's Italian Herbs... and my Basil is going nuts. I've had to trim it back 3 times already, so tonight's dinner was spaghetti with a lovely garlic and basil sauce. The other items - chives, parsely, thyme, mint and oregano - have been kind of overwhelmed by the basilicity... I'm thinking I need to grow nothing but Basil next time, and grow enough for a fresh batch of Pesto. Yum...

Valkyrie

Went to see Valkyrie today with my youngest son. We had a very pleasant afternoon together, first having lunch and then later going to the film. I had read reviews that had basically panned it as dreadful, but I tend to ignore movie reviewers as a general principle, because most of them are just after attention anyway.

In this case my skepticism was rewarded. I was favorably impressed by the film, which was neither over the top in terms of violence, appeared to be fairly accurate factually, and was technically well-executed. I had known very little about the plot, and felt substantially impressed to know that there was a German resistance, even if it was insular and non-coordinated.

I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan, with no disrespect intended. He has a lot of talent, but I just had a hard time seeing him as a Nazi officer, even one trying to stop a madman. Still, I'm glad I went to see it.
