As always, I believe in a world that works for everyone. But who speaks for those with no voices?

A federal judge has ruled that the FDA must approve sales of the "morning after" pill to children under 18; 17-year-olds to start with, and examination to be given to all other ages.

Not that this is anything new - in the UK, a pilot program will make the abortion pill available to girls as young as 11 via a text message to their school nurse, even though anyone from 11 to 13 will be monitored by child protection staff.

If a woman or girl of any age is raped, or the victim of incest, they should not be obliged to carry a fetus to term. If it can be shown that a fetus is not viable, or if a pregnancy would threaten the life of the mother, an abortion could be supported.

But to terminate a new life for the sake of convenience? To totally abrogate responsibility for the creative act? Kids who want to do the beast with two backs just because it's fun, and the next morning forget it ever happened? That doesn't work for me, and it doesn't work for the lives that are snuffed out.

This ruling is another indicator that our current administration considers an unborn child to have the same worth as a hangnail, or a suspicious mole; that the divine spark is either absent or not worthy of consideration; and that the right to life is a fallacious concept foisted upon a gullible nation by religious zealots.

There are many who speak for the rest; like the Lorax who spoke for the trees, I speak for the children. I'm not asking my government to legislate morality, I'm asking it to legislate responsibility and humanity.

Folks of all ages are going to dance the horizontal mamba regardless of what the government, or their mamas and papas, or their pastors or rabbis or mullahs say. But that's a choice, one which has potential consequences not for just two people, but three or even more.

Roe v Wade is a fact of life. In its intent to make sure that no woman would never again have to be subject to the brutality of a back-alley abortionist, it is a Good Thing. And, it does not mean that anyone should have the right to terminate the life of an unborn child for any reason. That's irresponsible, and it's inhuman.

If you create a life, give it a chance to live, even if you don't want to take care of it yourself. There are thousands of people out there who are hungry for a child who can't have one of their own. That is a world that works for everyone.

The Old Wolf has spoken.
