Taking reluctant leave of the Lion's Den,

I turned Molly towards the West and crossed the Delaware river in much greater comfort than our first president. I arrived in Washington, DC at about 1:40, and promply went and paid my respects to The Godfather.

He really
is my Godfather - and because of one thing and another I don't think I've seen him since 1972 or thereabouts. It was a delightful reunion. We dined at Pinzimini, where I feasted on a wild mushroom and goat cheese pizza
groan belch groanIn the afternoon I took a bus from Arlington into town, where I walked from Farragut Square to the White House,

where I also got some interesting shots of Marine One doing practice takeoffs and landings,

and then walked on to the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, The WWII Monument and the Vietnam Wall.

After bidding farewell to the Godfather, I shuffled down the road to Harrisonburg, VA where I turned in for the night.
It was a thought-provoking day as I contemplated the sheer size of our nation's capital as a monument to individual freedom, such as is found nowhere else in the world.
