For a totally unverifiable quiz in terms of validity and reliability, I'm still pleased with the results. Building a world that works for everyone requires balance, and I'm glad I didn't come down on the side of extremism in any of these areas.

Something's rotten in DenmARK

On September 3rd, the news went around that the fire chief in Jericho, Arkansas had been shot in court while protesting yet another ticket written by the city's ovezealous citation-writing machine.

Yikes, I thought.

Well, it gets better. Now, the town's mayor has fired the chief, and no charges will be filed against the officer who shot him. The remainder of the fire department has quit in solidarity.

It sounds like the rot in this little corner of our fair land goes clear down to the roots.

I don't care what happened that day. There were 7 police officers present. Even if the fire chief went totally ape-hqiz - which I have a hard time believing - I have an even harder time accepting that 7 guys couldn't sit on him until he calmed down. You don't just shoot a guy in a courtroom, for Mogg's sake.

From the original story, "sheriff's deputies are asking where all the money from the tickets went". Something smells worse than a month-old tilapia here.
