This is what you see when you enter ShopKo on the evening of December 24th.

This is the note I sent to ShopKo customer service, along with the above image:

This is what greeted me as I entered the ShopKo in Provo, Utah on Christmas Eve. Yes, yes, I know you have a bottom line to look after, but couldn't you at least wait until the 26th out of respect for the holiday? Thermonuclear "Sheesh"! Merry Christmas.

Almost I am moved to blaspheme.

Well, I suppose it could be much worse.

The Following Rules Will Be Implemented At Once

Store must be opened promptly at 6 A.M. and remain open until 9 P.M. the year round.

Store must be swept; counters, base shelves and show cases dusted. Lamps trimmed, filled and chimneys cleaned; pens made; doors and windows opened; a pail of water and a scuttle of coal must be brought in by each clerk, before breakfast if there is time to do so, and attend the customers who call.

Store must not be opened on the Sabbath Day unless absolutely necessary and then only for a very few short minutes.

Any employe who is in the habit of smoking Spanish cigars, getting shaved at a barber shop, going to dances and other such places of amusement, will most surely give his employer reason to be suspicious of his integrity and all around honesty.

Each employe must pay not less than $5.00 per year to the church and must attend Sunday School every Sunday.

Men employes are given one evening a week for courting purposes, and two if they go to prayer meeting regularly.

After 14 hours of work in the store, the leisure time must be spent in reading good literature.”
