Every now and then, a product shows up that is so poorly designed that it deserves publicity, if only to keep other consumers from suffering as I have suffered.
In this case, I refer to the product listed in the title of this post - the Ames "Arctic Blast" ergonomic snow shovel.
It looks good on the surface, but has a fatal flaw. Under the scraping edge is a ridge of metal, ostensibly designed to keep the plastic from wearing. What it actually does is keep the edge from ever contacting the ground - unless you tilt the beast forward at a very un-ergonomic angle, which effectively makes it impossible to push. If you use it normally, the thing leaves a beautiful, even layer of packed snow about 1/8" thick on your driveway, which is even harder to get off on the second pass.
Whoever designed this abomination never used it, or probably never had experience shoveling snow. They, along with those who approved this design, should be condemned to spend eternity in Maine, shoveling snow from people's driveways with this selfsame atrocity, with no one to hear their pitiable cries of frustration.
As Neytiri often says: "Hhhhhääää!"
