Art Spiegelman (Maus) drew Jews as mice and French people as frogs, so he wasn't sure how to portray his converted French wife. He thought of having her transform in a puff of smoke upon marriage, but she didn't like that. Ultimately we saw her only after the wedding, as a mouse.
Personally, I prefer "she-wolf." "Wolfette" reminds me too much of Smurfette.
