R.I.P Robert Gordon Hart

Found out only today that my surviving Godfather, Robert G. Hart of Arlingon, Virginia, passed away on 30 January of this year. I tried calling him yesterday and his phone had been disconnected. A call to his residence and a bit of googling confirmed the sad news.

Bob was a wonderful man, and a good friend. He was closely associated with my mother and father, and he and his partner John Latham were both named Godfather to me when I was a baby. He remained loving and warm to the end, and I'm so grateful I was able to re-establish contact with him in his later years, after having lost touch for a long period of time (not by choice!)

He will be deeply missed.

All it said in the obit was "after a short illness". I'm hoping to get a few more details from someone who was close to him at the time.

Bob Hart

Sometime in late 2009 Bob called us from Arlington to say that he had decided to move back to France. We had no way of knowing this was his way of saying goodbye to us. We were very close friends of John Latham for many years, knowing Bob only through John. After John died in 1996, Bob would always call me on my birthday, November 6th, to commemorate John's birthday, November 7th, and mine. When our birthdays passed in 2009 with no call, I was sad, but thought.....Bob's in France. Just last week I wrote to Bob at the last address I had for him in Brittany. Couldn't get him out of my head. And just tonight I was compelled to use Google. Now I know that Bob has gone. What a sweet and good man, but always something of a mystery. Did you know John, and do you have memories of John and Bob to share? We have many photographs, but nothing written. Would like to hear from you.
