One more reason to mock the turbaned loons

Ayatollah Umatillah Panatellah Havaslabah Ahrmahr Stahr Bahloni, a month after saying that his instructions should have the same impact as those of Mohammed, has now said that although music is halal (permitted by Islam), it's not really. According to the supreme dictator-for-life and number one of Iran, "music is "not compatible" with the values of the Islamic republic, and should not be practised or taught in the country."

My heart goes out to the Iranians who want to be free from this kind of tyrranical nonsense.

All dictators crumble eventually.

I will give them marks for outlawing the mullet, though.

Their call to prayer every night is a song, isn't it? So, they can't be called to pray every night then.

Islam, when practiced by normal kind individual, is a lovely religion on par with Christians and Judaism. But in every Religion you get a few idiot who screw it up for everyone else.

They do get kudos for outlawing the mullet, but beyond that nothing else.

Rules that I live by. :-)

I think they make exceptions for anything whose purpose is to glorify Allah. Heck, in some strict places, they never read the Quran aloud without singing it as beautifully as possible.

I might be more comfortable in Iran than the average non-Muslim American. I never play music anyway, except as part of a movie or video game. I've even flirted with the prospect of Christian monasticism, which, funnily enough, would preclude a whole lot of activities these zealots disapprove.

But that doesn't stop me from finding them intolerable.
