A day in Oslo

My last day in Norway, spent it taking in the sights. The sun rose at about 9:30, and stayed low on the horizon all day, beginning to set around 2:30. Very disconcerting. But it was a beautiful day...

Went out to the Vikingskipshuset and wandered slackjawed among the millenium-old ships and artifacts, then walked down to the Kon-Tiki museum and decreased the jaw-to-floor distance another quantum. Wow... to see that amazing reed ship in person, and the exhibits about Heyerdahl's journeys, and the birdmen, and all... and then, while I was waiting for the bus to return to the city, sitting in front of the museum on alate-autumn day in Norway with a warm sun shining on my face... it was perfect.

The afternoon I spent wåndering around downtøwn Oslo, and popped into an internet cafe to kill an hour before meeting with some friends both new and old for a Lutefisk dinner... wish me luck! This keybøærd is funny...

Oslo is a pretty town - not as picture-squee as I might have thought, but very practical and Skandinavisk, and of course with more history and culture in it than you could experience in a month. Wish I had more time.

Home tomorrow, and glad of it even though I'll miss Norge and the 150 or so wonderful people I spent a week with. But now I have so many friends in all of Scandinavia and the Netherlands...

Then let me say, since I won't be here to do so upon your arrival, welcome home. :)
