I run a business. Several, actually. I get calls. This morning I was on the phone with a client and another call came through, but I missed it. So when I was done with the current client, I called the number back and indicated who I was, and that I had just received a call from this number.

I was promptly lectured on how strange this "call-back" business was, and how rude it was to intrude on someone's personal life. And on, and on. Etcetera. Oh, and she won't use the internet, either. Yikes.

Well, adopting the conciliatory tone of Mr. DeBakey, I got the order anyway, but Yikes. By the holy skull of Mogg's grandmother, Lady...

Luddites, furrfu!

When I was still running Potted Fox, I used to love those call-backs. The absolute confusion in the voice on the other end was priceless.

Some paranoids are terribly averse to strangers calling them at home for any reason -- probably the first in line for the Do Not Call List. They'd rather wait and call you again.

Not as obnoxious as the paranoids who refuse to give the personal information necessary for you to help them but expect them to help you anyway.

It's a method of communicating with the deaf via an intermediary on the phone who transcribes what you say...
feels darn strange, you have to keep it slow and remember to allow gaps for the customer to reply.....
