And that would be Jessica Fletcher of "Murder She Wrote," as I think Angela Lansbury is superb, although Miss Marple runs a very close second.

Lansbury did play Miss Marple in The Mirror Crack'd. It just wasn't a well-received movie.

Worked in Murder on the Orient Express though. Richard Widmark, who played the victim, agreed to do it so he could meet everyone in the cast.

I always thought that Jessica Fletcher came into existence because they couldn't get the rights to Miss Marple....
although Jane Marple is a lot older than Jessica Fletcher in the books and a lot less active...
just observant with a great knowledge of human nature.
