Sore arms, a sore back and a warm, fuzzy feeling. Spent 4 hours this A.M. at our dairy helping prepare 10,500 lbs of Atmit for shipment to Ethiopia. That's 250 50-lb bags. They say 2 pounds of this porridge can save a life. So today I helped 5,000 people stay alive. I could think of worse ways to spend a morning.

That's a lot of carrying! Good work though, I hope it gets to where it needs to go, nice and safely. I know there's lots of political issues aid needs to circumvent to reach the people that need it.

Aye, that's always a concern. In our case, we have partnered very closely with Catholic Relief Services and Project Mercy, and our shipments are always accompanied by an official who sees to it that it doesn't end up filling some warlord's larder.

I remember the days when I travelled to Albania frequently. Heard constant horror stories of relief supplies dropped in Kosovo, and in the 15 minutes it took the ground staff to reach the drop site, there was nothing left, not even the pallets.
