Abebooks, with whom I have an ongoing relationship, just sent me an email inviting me to check out their Weird Book Room.

Date: 2009-09-06 10:48 am (UTC)The book on hanging seems interesting.... I recall a book by someone who'd worked as an executioner. The Home Office had a list of acceptable operatives and would send them a message telling them when they were required....
The Newgate calendar (3 vols Panther books!) lists one practitioner who ended up strung up.....
Strung up / twisted / turned off / dancing the Tyburn jig.....
plenty of slang terms from the 18/19th century Tyburn tree days ....
