Some of the work of David Thorne.
Maybe it's the administrators that won't think this is funny. Oh well...

For your gratuitous enjoyment, I present here a public-domain story which George Reavis wrote when he was the Assistant Superintendent of the Cincinnati Public Schools back in the 1940s. This was a handout for my Educational Administration classwork in 1972. The Animal School

Date: 2009-12-18 04:44 pm (UTC)He's deliberately throwing the conversation off topic in order to protest what he thinks is an unjust situation for the wrong reasons. The child was playing games on a school computer. In other words, he was not doing what he was supposed to in class. School computers are there for research, developing essays, gathering and sharing class-related information, and learning technical skills. Playing games does not fall into those categories. Also, playing games means he is not completing the assigned tasks. My school districts have confusing and contradictory homework policies which state (1) students must have homework to reinforce what they learned in school, and (2) don't bother assinging homework because students won't do it anyway and you'll only hurt their grades. Well, I can definately say that students do their homework. I give them an assignment in history class, and they instead do their spanish homework which is due next period, because they were too busy playing WoW last night. Or instead of doing their work, they bring a game in on a flash drive and play that on the computer instead. When will students have time to learn, while their parents refuse to reinforce the educational process (as this parent is doing) and they bring games to school and play them instead of doing their classwork?
