This project has been in the news a lot lately, both for its intriguing "Minority Report"-like potential and its unsettling implications.

Today's Dilbert takes another look at where this could go:

although on October 12, 1994, Adams did what I think is a more accurate summary of the potential future:

The above video set my creative juices flowing, but sadly I don't (yet) have the video production skills to produce the blistering satire that would be possible. I'll just have to wait for someone with more chops to do what I so keenly would like to produce myself.

And yes, if you were wondering, I would use this technology.

As a child, I had several favorites that I would play with my cousins.

Monopoly
Careers
Sorry
Teeko
Tactics II
Stratego
Stocks and Bonds
Blue Chip (Can't find a picture of this - it was an intriguing game with three sliding bars representing market sectors)
Go to the Head of the Class
Chutes and Ladders

Later, the family added Life and Risk, and a few others came and went over time. I have some of the originals, and have gathered others from thrift stores over time, preferring the original versions rather than the re-worked modern boards.

Monopoly with my cousins was cutthroat, and we played big and hard. We would combine sets, increase the money supply, and used the Stock Exchange add-on which increased the potential for amassing wealth exponentially. Games would last for days.

I have many treasures from the past and present, they give me continuity and comfort. Old things... things I inherited from the grandparents and parents. A pair of prism glasses that let you watch TV while lying flat on your back; a wallet that turns into a shopping bag; old slide rules, abaci, and other calculating devices; The first TI digital watch; a portable sundial (museum replica); many, many others.

If I could have one thing back that I had gotten rid of, it would have been my Petal camera - they're worth a small fortune now, and mine was new in the box. But there are many other things I'd love to have back as well... old toys I played with, not to mention my comic collection that could have put my kids through college if I had kept them, or my baseball cards (think "Blast from the Past.")

Easy come, easy go.
