Gold's Gym has one of the most ironclad contracts in the business, according to my attorney. I signed up, and two weeks later my life situation changed drastically and I could no longer afford the membership. They stuck like epoxy to their 3-day recission clause and would not budge an inch. When I changed my credit card to stop the automatic billing, they came after me with their collection lawyers and threatened to sue, and to ruin my credit (which was in the toilet anyway, but that's beside the point.) Now that my contract has expired, and these slime-molds have all the money they are due, I can get this off my chest and move on.

This outfit is iconic of everything that is wrong with corporate America.

My takeaways:

  1. "Legal" does not always mean "Right"; Hell is full of such penurious moneygrubbers.
  2. Read Your Contract Carefully Before Signing.
  3. I will never, ever, ever do business with Gold's Gym again, and I advise you to do likewise, and tell all your friends the same. Find a gymnasium that works on a month-to-month basis.

According to my Grandpa, Bally's Total Fitness is just as bad.
Your best bet in my Humble Opinion is to by a Wii, get your self Wii fit, wii fit plus, EA active and do it at home when ever you feel like it. the cost is about $350 to $400 in one fell swoop and you will have those forever, unlike the fee's a gym will charge you and you don't have to worry about somebody else sweating on the machine before you use it.

GG has always given me bad vibes. Maybe it was those newspaper ads that showed an exercising woman inside the silhouette of a muscleman, as if one became the other. Now I know that if I ever decide to enroll at a nearby gym, the Y is a better bet.

Well, at least GG is less financially shady than this.

I've also been warned off of them.

Unfortunately, it was many years ago, so neither I nor my dad remember quite why, but this'll do quite well as a reason.

I'll probably stick to the city's main fitness centre if I ever need it.

It is rather ironic that a few weeks ago, I listened to an interview a radio MC had with the owner of Gold's Gym, and he seemed like a decent enough guy. But I never could see the sense of paying out money to someone to tell me to do something that I do anyway.

I try to read everything before I sign it, with the exception of those 3-page long legalese software agreements you have click "Yes" to before the install process kicks off. They're generally the only ones that get by me. Anything written on paper I try my best to assimilate first.

I'm still looking for a gym myself. Found only one or two others in my vicinity and have yet to check if they have non-contractual rates. Doesn't look hopeful.
