2. Never pay money to collect a prize
3. There is no money waiting for you from Nigeria, South Africa, Benin, or anywhere.
4. If you are contacted by a stranger and the subject is money, it's a scam.

I wonder if the scammers make it stupid on purpose so that the only suckers will be ones who they think deserve it.

Very perspicacious. I posted this (http://www.newser.com/story/148506/nigerian-scams-purposely-sound-unbelievable.html) somewhere a while back, I think it was on Facebook. I was intrigued to read it.
