It's a Wonderful Life is wonderful indeed... about once every five years or so. If you have to suffer through 25 broadcasts of it each Christmas season, it can begin to cloy. Unless you throw out your hypnogourd, and watch it on DVD when you choose. I'm about ready to see it again, along with Gone with the Wind - it's been about 10 years since I've seen either of them. A good interval.

Of all the Christmas movies out there, I think A Christmas Carol tops my list, and I can't decide if I like George C. Scott or Patrick Stewart best. Both gave heartwarming performances. The original story is probably one of the greatest works of fiction ever written, in my book.

Other favorites, in no particular order:

Miracle on 34th Street
The Bells of St. Mary's
The Bishop's Wife (1947)
Mr. Krueger's Christmas
Scrooge (1970, Thank You Very Much!)
White Christmas (1954)
Small One (Disney - 1978)

Happy watching to you all, whatever you may choose!

I had Small One on 8mm (film shows!) and still have it on Betamax. I THINK one of my Disney DVDs has it but they are secure (I hope) at Farragos.... When Disney issued the Mickey Mouse Christmas Carol on VHS they ORIGINALLY had all the shorts on that Beta bar "Small One" itself with it, but they soon learned that they could get the same cash for "Christmas Carol" alone.... IIRC there was "Night Before Christmas""Santa's Workshop" (Ma-MA, Ma-MA, MAMMY!*bounce*)"Once Upon A Wintertime""Wynken, Blynken and Nod"....
Still have the VHS might JUST go put it on now....

Do you still have a Beta player? Nobody can call you technologically challenged...

I don't know what my favorite is. Maybe one of the many adaptations of ACC, which I can't entirely keep straight. I assume movies that take place on or near Christmas but have practically nothing to do with it, like Die Hard, shouldn't count. (IaWL gets a pass because of the angels.)

I do know my least favorite: Holiday Inn. Too little plot, and too much racism.

Aside from the usual (Holiday Inn, White Christmas) I don't really have favourites anymore.

Some that I like to watch (but don't really consider favourites) are:
  • The Muppet Christmas Carol (my favourite version)
  • Robbie the Reindeer (I've seen the first two so far)
