The Human Comedy would be my choice. It boldy proclaims that goodness is a commodity neither trite, obsolete or passé, and that nobility of the human heart is needed for mankind to survive the storms of adversity and evil that constantly roll over it.
It would be just as à propos today as during the War, given the state of the world.
