Spam: Grateful for small victories
Nov. 24th, 2009 11:51 pmMy email box used to be full to the brim, every day, with "Wow! Hot Stock Pick Can't Fail" solicitations. "Act now, don't lose out!" they would trumpet, and for a while they were getting by internal spam filters with photoshopped images full of noise.

Alan Ralsky, a man who claims to be the "Godfather of Spam" was sentenced today to 51 months in prison by a federal judge in Detroit for his lead role in an e-mail stock scam scheme, according to court documents.
Finally, one scumbag who was responsible for the deluge of spam - not to mention other criminal activity - is going to spend time behind bars. Yes, it's like taking a teaspoon of water out of the ocean, but I'm so gratified that people saw the problem and thought it was worth going after.
One more little tidbit, from the CNN news item:
"Ralsky's lawyer, Steven Fishman, said he believed the sentence was "excessive." It was the most disappointing event that I have ever experienced in 36 years as a lawyer," Fishman said. "The sentence was higher than even what the government recommended, and I never imagined that in a million years. Everyone in the court house was stunned."
Oh, waah waah waah. Your client annoyed half the globe's population and stole $3 million dollars, and you're unhappy that he's going to spend 4 years in prison? Mogg's teeth, what a dickweed. Eat hqiz, you simpering waste of human cytoplasm.
As a general rule, I speak evil of no one. For scumbags like this and their scumbag attorneys, I'll make an exception.
Ah, that felt good!
