♬ We get up at twelve and start to work at one,
Take an hour for lunch and then at two we're done!
Jolly good fun! ♬

♬ Ha Ha Ha, Ho Ho Ho and a couple of tra la la's.
That's how we laugh the day away in the Merry Ole Land of Oz! ♬

Well, all I can say is, if I get down there and find out that's not how it is, I'm gonna be powerful disappointed. I've been looking all my life for a job like that...

Itinerary:
LAX to SYD
Delta Air Lines Flight 17
Arrive: Fri, Jan 8, 2010, 08:40 AM

SYD to LAX
Depart: 11:25 AM, Wed, Jan 27, 2010
Northwest Airlines Flight 9306

So the die is cast, and there's no turning back. Now all I have to do is arrange transportation to LAX from SLC and back, and put together the scratch to hold body and soul together while I'm down under. Oh, and petrol. Or propane, or whatever the Wolfmobile drinks.

For those of you who worry about my being able to deal with the heat and humidity, come to Salt Lake and spend a winter here... It's not like what [livejournal.com profile] alaskawolf has to put up with, but we get plenty ice and snow and arctic blasts. So believe me, by January I'll be ready for a change.

First off, yeah there's a workaround. I know how to shut this off. Most people, however, do not. And if I could cast a vote for the most annoying nag ever invented, it would be this one. Which just popped up again as I was typing this:

By Mogg's golden eyes, how hard would it have been to add one little button?

I have these dreams. A darkened interrogation room, a programmer tied to a chair. A cattle prod.

"Restart this!" zzt! Aieee! "And this!" zzt! Aieee! "And this!" zzt! Aieee!

Such a pleasant fantasy...

Oh yeah, and the workaround? Open a command window (Start Menu > Run). Type cmd and click "OK". In the command window, type sc stop wuauserv. Automatic Updates will resume the next time you restart your computer (when you want to). So don't worry, you'll keep getting Windows updates. Just don't forget to restart eventually.

Another beautiful day, about 10 degrees cooler than yesterday, but still lovely. I want to go for a walk, but something I must have et is keeping me close to home...

A few of my F-list have posted reviews on Spike Jonze's recreation of Maurice Sendak's timeless classic. I was going to write a review of my own, but I found one by Dana Stevens from Slate that's written far better than I could do, so I'll simply refer you to that one.

I got my money's worth and there was a lot to enjoy, but I was left feeling like there was no discrete take-away - yet that is what one ought to expect from a movie that was essentially told through the psyche of a child.
