Panel recommends that the FDA regulate salt consumption

And the FDA spokesman says that while the agency is not working on regulations at the moment, they are considering the panel's recommendations.

Hqiz. Holy flapping hqiz. You might as well start calling our nation the U.S.S.A. (Union of Silly Socialist Asses).

I believe in health. I sell USANA, some of the finest health-maintenance products on earth. My country is in the middle of an obesity epidemic. But I'll be dipped in bees if I allow the government to step in and tell me what I, or any of my neighbors, can and can't eat. Yas, yas, I know they already regulate a plethora of substances, but salt? Sugar? Kiss my fuzzy butt, FDA.

Forgive an outsider's ignorance, but shouldn't they be doing this already? I was under the impression that this sort of regulation was their job.

There are already regulations in place that most fast food restaurants are adhering to, to wit, providing nutritional information about what they sell so that consumers can make informed choices. It's getting too close to a nanny state.

Remember how Cheerios had the claim on their box? The FDA cracked down on them and said if they want to keep that claim, they have to be regulated like a drug. So... General Mills removed the claim.
