Its a very good video. Its unfortunate that Obama felt necessary to turn NASA into an outreach program to Muslims. I believe that NASA shows the success of the US in its space program, and Obama does not like a successful United States.

He also eats babies and uses copies of the Constitution as toilet paper in the White House bathrooms.

That video made me tear up.

It's true. We have stopped dreaming. I'm posting this to other friends.

Sad, huh. Most of the world looked to NASA for dreams and hopes in space. To be honest it sounds like it has become mired in beureaucracy and money-sponging like any other long term government department though.

Combine that with the military spending and the now openly admitted independance of the US miilitary from the US government, and it paints some dark times ahead. (Especially for those of us not in the US).

Approval of the space program isn't much higher than it was in the 60s. We didn't stop dreaming; we just woke up.

The private sector needs to carry the way for the next little while. The same thing happened with the exploration of other continents by Europeans; the government put up the exploration budget, the money men sent others out to pull in as much income as they could get away with, and then the government stepped in again to control the excesses.

It could be that cultural disinterest in the future is a big reason I have trouble imagining the known world lasting another century. That and environmentalist scares, from which I have yet to recover.

But honestly, I think space travel will never be practical. Nothing in reach is worth the trip.

They're things I've been saying for years.

And now, 40+ years on, we have far greater technology and are doing far less with it.

There's vast mineral wealth on the other planets in this solar system alone, just sitting there. What you waiting for by gum, there's ore in dem marsian hills!!

Maybe when China is close enough to grab some it will shake the western world out of its lethargy.
