... and that's the way it should be done. Navy snipers - God bless them - took out three pirates when it looked like Captain Phillips was in imminent danger - and the fourth pirate surrendered.

The news report on KSL quoted Jamac Habeb, a 30-year-old self-proclaimed pirate in one of Somalia's piracy hubs, Eyl, that, "our friends should have done more to kill the captain before they were killed. This will be a good lesson for us. From now on, if we capture foreign ships and their respective countries try to attack us, we will kill (the hostages)."

Well, Jamac, you're a moron. Three of your buddies are dead, and roasting in Hell over a slow spit. And you, and the other pieces of maggoty camel ejecta from your fly-ridden group of human detritus will get the message in the same way - a 50bmg slug through your twisted brains. Come get some!

Have a nice day.

Love,
The United States of America.

[Disclaimer: This is a very uncharacteristic post from someone who believes in a world that works for everyone, with no one left out. But the memories of 9/11, and those who would attack our nation and its sovreign citizens, are still fresh.]

What Jamac doesn't seem to realize is that if they kill the hostages, they have nothing to bargain with and the navy in question will have no qualms about turning them into lead-ridden shark bait. I hope the navies patrolling the Horn got a picture or composite sketch of him--bonus points to the guy who gets him!

Pirates should not be shot. They are the reason they still have halyards on the yardarms of modern vessels....Don't bother keelhauling the beggars there aren't enough barnacles on the hulls of modern ships.

Just haul 'em up from a noose until they stop kicking.
AH HARR!

Our Jolly Roger from the yardarm merrily was danglin'
At least 'e used to be quite jolly before we 'ad to 'ang 'im....

Tom Clancy wrote about the crabs in Cehsapeake bay, who like to eat flesh. The baddies in one of his books throw the bodies of their victims (other baddies, in this case) into the bay, and the crabs eat them. So... why not toss the pirates in the bay with snorkels and cement boots? That way, they're alive when the crabs start to dine.

I have dark thoughts, sometimes. Usually, I keep them in a carefully locked strong-box.

[EDIT] Hey, what about your gibbets and crows? Same idea, just dry. [/EDIT]

In some ways I think those sort of thoughts can be healthy, in the right time, place, and for the correct reasons.

Imagining a creative revenge helps vent anger and frustration, it serves as a release, In this sort of situation, dealing with these sort of people, terrorists, mass murderers, yes I've had those kinds of thoughts, they've let me get my anger out, but I've never had any intention or thought of actually doing them.

While venting our frustrations in such a way is fine, actually carrying out such things would lower us to their level, we should be above that. If it's necessary do it quick, get it over with, get the result, keep our morals intact. The important thing isn't the revenge, it's getting the job done with the minimum of damage, physical, mental or moral, to ourselves and our own.

Sorry, I'm not trying to lecture, just giving my view on the subject.

I've also decided that the way to deal with men who molest children is to emasculate them. With a lemon zester.

Jamac, Jamac, Jamac, You fail to understand how taking hostages works. Look at your boat, look at that big warship over there, the reason you don't have a high explosive shell rocketing up your backside is because you have hostages. If you kill those hostages what, exactly, is going to stop you from becoming an expanding cloud of vapour?

Comcast News reports that Somali pirates have vowed "retaliation." I don't understand people who seek revenge over what is obviously justice. Hypothetically, if I were a criminal and my partners got punished accordingly, I might be resentful, but I wouldn't feel like there was a score to settle.

That's why you're not a criminal. Their minds are so twisted that they have to justify their actions in some way or other.
