• I believe in a God who has a plan for me, and who can see my ultimate potential far better than I can.
  
• I believe in the principle of free agency - every moment is a choice, and every choice has prices and benefits.
  
• I believe in karma to the extent that what I put out into the universe comes back to me. If I put out positive energy and focus on positive things, that's what I get in exchange, from delightfully surprising sources.
  
• Lastly, I believe that things happen. Good things, bad things, indifferent things. I posted previously about contrasting attitudes in the face of catastrophe; it's the meaning I assign to these things that matters, and there, as in all places, I am free to choose.

I used to think dilbert was funny until I worked for a corporation. Now I read Dilbert as more of a sort of journal of futility.

Dilbert for me was a journal of solace. "See! Other people have it much worse than you! Now kwitcherbellyachin' and get back to skimming the scum off the bilgewater..."

I never cease to think of my favorite scene from Waterworld, where the old dude paddling around on the diesel gets blown up with a prayer of gratitude on his lips...
